Liz Vernon, delighted us with her creative arrangements using unusual containers and materials. She emphasized spring materials with flowering branches and lovely roses . Some of her creations utilized fruits and vegetables.
Liz Vernon has studied ikebana for 18 years. She has been president of Ikebana International San Francisco Bay Area and is Deputy Director of the Sogetsu Bay Area Branch. Ikebana has been an influence in many aspects of her life and career. As a Resource Specialist in a local h igh school, she used an Ikebana technique to see each student as an individual and to work with him accordingly. In her other passions of working with textiles and clay, she manipulates structure, form and texture in weaving, knitting and ceramics. Trying all the time to remember that less is more.
In the past few years, the use of recycled materials have appeared more in her designs. Branch materials are also important; many times she has stopped the car to cut a branch or pick up roadside material.
She is an associate member of Monterey Bay and Sacramento Chapters. For her there is truly Friendship through Flowers.
