Elaine Jo

Elaine JoElaine Jo is a flower arranging teacher, demonstrator, and exhibitor of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana, a contemporary free-style school, which firmly believes that flower arranging is most truly fulfilling when it is a reflection of oneself, and, therefore, imagination and feeling are stressed as essential parts of creative design, as well as the proper selection of materials and containers.
Mrs. Jo studied first with Keiko Shimojima, Vice-Headmaster, and then with Meikof Kasuya, Co-founder and former Headmaster of the Ichiyo School, and with Akihiro Kasuya, present Headmaster, and has traveled extensively in the United States giving workshops and demonstrations.
Currently she holds regular classes at Hastings Garden Center and the Buckhead Library in Atlanta, Georgia. Her teaching schedule also includes a three day retreat for her students each year in the spring.
Mrs. Jo served on the Board of Directors of the International Division of the Ichiyo School and was correspondent director for overseas members when she lived in Japan. As such she edited a guidebook for members and collaborated on writing textbooks for the correspondence course of the school. She lived in Japan from 1959-63, 1968-89.
Her work has been published both in Japan and the U.S. She also was guest demonstrator on the Lynette Jennings television show. She was President of the former Ichiyo Art Center in Atlanta from 1964-2005.
